Sun Ra’s Ra to the Rescue was my selection for the day.

I picked this particular album because I had yet to listen to it. In some of their albums, Sun Ra reminds me of Fugazi and vice versa. They all had the anarchist DIY ethos that didn’t sit well with a certain type of person. The closest I have gotten to see either live is via YouTube. While Sun Ra ascended us, Ian and Guy humbly grounded us. This is one of the Ra albums that seems like Fugazi would have been inspired from. After this, I will pop on Fugazi’s In On the Killtaker.

Anyways, both When Spaceships Appear and Space Shuttle tracks are my favorite. I’ll have to rack down a copy or two to play on Fantastic Voyage.

Hopefully, next Sunday I am germ free and it is warm and not rainy for 10am to 12pm. Join me at the ballpark afterwords if you like. It could be tradition.

I had a cold for the first Sun Ra Sunday. I took something for the nasal inflammation so I was feeling pretty heady. I got to the park around 9:45, and easily found a seat with my back to the road. Took out everything I needed:

  • speaker

  • notebook and a pen

  • postcards

  • a breakfast bar and a gatorade

  • my polaroid

The weather looked ominous, a surprising turn of events since my iPhone showed no rain in the immediate radar. I could see and hear and birds and pigeons. Next week, I will come with seed and other treats for them. I’d love to feel like I will be friends with the birds. Maybe a crow will join us?

In the distance I could hear police whistles, yelling and celebrations. The Flower City half marathon was today. Every so often, show offs with their tight running pants on walk through the park.

On the park bench, I could see buildings I cannot see from my apartment’s window. There was much less garbage on the ground that what I was expecting.

What I observed/experienced: said “hello” to a couple. He said hello back and smiled. They seemed to be there to charge their phones via the outlets in the lamp posts. A woman with cool sunglasses with a dog.
